Yesterday, DP World inaugurated three new sites in Romania, significantly boosting marine infrastructure capacity, which has seen an increase in vessel traffic in recent years.

Constanta, the largest container port on the Black Sea, now hosts two new facilities following a €65 million ($70.6 million) investment: a 5-hectare project cargo terminal and a new RoRo terminal capable of handling up to 80,000 vehicles annually at its peak. Additionally, a further €50 million will be invested in a new multi-transport platform in Constanta, set to open in 2025.

DP World also opened a new facility in Aiud, located in Romania's industrial heartland. This 8-hectare intermodal logistics hub, created with a €21 million investment, connects rail and road transport.

DP World anticipates that these investments will attract major businesses to relocate or expand manufacturing facilities in the region. This reshoring trend is particularly evident in the automotive manufacturing sector, which has grown rapidly in recent years and is expected to continue expanding.

Automotive manufacturing already constitutes 13% of Romania's GDP, with companies like Mercedes-Benz, Renault-owned Dacia, and Ford operating in the country. Automotive firms are also increasingly investing in neighboring Hungary and Poland, as well as nearby Turkey.
