CMA CGM is widely believed to be the European owner behind a significant ship order in South Korea.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and HD Hyundai Samho announced a $2.67 billion order for 12 LNG dual-fueled 15,500 TEU ships. Brokers have indicated that these ships are being built for CMA CGM.
The order is divided between the two yards, with each constructing six new vessels, all scheduled for delivery in 2028.
This order brings CMA CGM’s newbuild backlog to over 1 million slots, making it second only to Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC). CMA CGM is poised to surpass Maersk in the global liner rankings shortly.
