The port of Hamburg, traditionally dominated by local operators, is expected to see its third foreign liner investment.
According to Alphaliner, the French ocean carrier CMA CGM and the German terminal operator Eurogate have reportedly agreed to collaborate on developing a new container terminal at Germany’s largest port.
This new terminal, known as Hamburg's Westerweiterung, will feature two megamax-ready piers, measuring 450 meters and 600 meters in length, and will add approximately 2 million TEUs of handling capacity.
In recent years, other international shipping lines, such as COSCO, Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), and Grimaldi, have also invested in the Hamburg port.
