On October 31, a fire erupted in the engine room of a general cargo ship, the FG Sevil. While rescue teams successfully put out the blaze and saved 23 people, tragically, two crew members lost their lives.

The fire broke out as the vessel was en route from Yalova, Turkey, to Burgas, Bulgaria, carrying 17 crew members and eight shipyard workers.

Upon receiving an alert, Turkey’s Directorate General of Coastal Safety dispatched emergency response vessels, including the KEGM-4 fast rescue lifeboat and the tugboats Kurtarma 7 and Sark. After a determined firefighting effort, the flames were contained, and 23 people were safely rescued.

Sadly, two crew members who had been unaccounted for were later discovered unresponsive in the engine room and were pronounced dead.
