Bulk Carriers Collide on Yangtze River, No Injuries Reported
On December 30, 2024, two bulk carriers collided on China's Yangtze River. The vessels involved were the Singapore-registered Yangze 22 and the Japan-flagged Vega Dream. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the crew members of either ship.
The collision occurred at approximately 10:00 PM (SGT), as confirmed by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The Yangze 22 sustained significant damage, resulting in a fuel oil spill of around 9 tons due to hull breaches.
Currently, the Yangze 22 is anchored at Hengsha East Anchorage for a detailed inspection.
Despite the collision, both vessels remain stable. The Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) has assured the Singapore MPA that the situation is under control. Cleanup efforts for the oil spill are ongoing, led by the Shanghai MSA and the ship management team of the Yangze 22.
