280,000+ TEUs Handled by Port of Melbourne in March

The Port of Melbourne has issued its trade report for March 2024, indicating a notable rise in overall container throughput with a total of 280,900 TEUs, an increase from March 2023.

In terms of imports, full containers (excluding Bass Strait traffic) recorded higher volumes than the previous year. Key commodities such as furniture, domestic appliances, metal manufactures, and paperboard all showed gains over last year's figures.

Exports in full containers (also excluding Bass Strait traffic) saw an upturn in March 2024, with items like hay, chaff & fodder, lentils, and barley surpassing the volumes recorded last year.

The movement of empty containers also experienced an increase in March 2024, continuing the trend of growth from the previous year.
