Vessel in Red Sea Targeted by Multiple Projectiles, Crew Safe
On October 10, an unnamed chemical tanker navigating through the Red Sea, approximately 70 nautical miles off the coast of Al Hudayah, Yemen, reported being attacked by a series of projectiles.
The incident occurred around 12:10 AM UTC, when the vessel's master alerted the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) that they were under attack by unidentified projectiles. Roughly an hour later, the master reported that one projectile had hit the ship, causing some damage. Fortunately, the crew was unharmed, and no fires were sparked by the attack.
At 5:15 AM, the UKMTO issued another update, confirming that the tanker had again been targeted, with two projectiles exploding near the vessel. Despite the close call, the crew remained safe, and the damage to the ship was described as minor.
Speculation suggests the projectiles could have been launched by drones. The vessel is now continuing to its next scheduled destination.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, and warnings have been issued to other vessels in the region to navigate with caution.
