Tugboat and Bulk Carrier Collide Off Sarangani Coast

A maritime collision took place on March 25 involving the Philippine-flagged tugboat M/TUG Sadong 33 and the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Universe Kaisa. The incident occurred around 4:20 AM local time off the coast of Maasim, Sarangani Province, in the Philippines. 

Following the report of the incident, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) immediately launched a search and rescue (SAR) operation. A response team, supported by three PCG vessels, was dispatched to the scene to assist. 

Initial information indicates that M/TUG Sadong 33 was carrying eight crew members at the time of the accident. By 8:00 AM, six of those individuals had been rescued and were reported to be in stable condition. 

Tragically, the tugboat's captain was discovered deceased, and one crew member remains unaccounted for. The PCG continues to conduct search efforts to locate the missing individual. 

In addition to the rescue efforts, the Coast Guard is also conducting an oil spill assessment in the vicinity of the incident. So far, no signs of pollution have been reported. 

No specific details have been released yet regarding the Universe Kaisa or any potential damage it may have sustained. Investigations into the cause of the collision are ongoing.
