Three Syrian crewmembers are presumed dead after their 36-year-old ship sank following a collision along the Ukrainian grain corridor near the Romanian border early on Saturday morning.
The Tanzanian-flagged Mohammed Z, built in 1988, went down after an apparent collision with the slightly larger Turkish-owned vessel Michel, which now bears noticeable dents on its prow.
Romania deployed significant search and rescue resources over the weekend. Out of the remaining eight crew members on the Mohammed Z, one has been hospitalized.
