The Brazilian port of Fortaleza welcomed the Silver Ray for a transit stop on March 9, 2025, as part of the ship’s inaugural South American itinerary.

According to local officials, the LNG-powered vessel brought over 1,300 people, including passengers and crew, making it the ninth cruise ship to visit the port this season.

Currently on a 71-night Grand Voyage around South America, Silver Ray entered service with Silversea Cruises in June 2024. The journey began in Fort Lauderdale on January 19, 2025, and includes visits to 38 ports across 17 countries before returning to Florida on April 1.

During its South American voyage, the ship has called at several Brazilian destinations, including Balneário Camboriú, Ilhabela, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Manaus, and Parintins, in addition to Fortaleza.

Built by Germany’s Meyer Werft shipyard, the Silver Ray will shift to Caribbean sailings once its current voyage concludes.

Fortaleza is expecting a total of four cruise ship calls during March. Alongside Silver Ray, Nicko Cruises’ Vasco da Gama visited the port on March 7, as part of its world cruise that began in Germany in October.

The city also recently hosted the Villa Vie Odyssey and Holland America Line’s Volendam

Other vessels to have visited Fortaleza this cruise season include Phoenix Reisen’s Amera, Cunard’s Queen Victoria, and two ships from Princess Cruises: the Sapphire Princess and Majestic Princess

The current cruise season in Fortaleza is set to conclude in mid-April with the arrival of MSC Cruises’ MSC Poesia on April 12. The ship will be stopping at the port during its 26-night repositioning cruise from Buenos Aires, Argentina, to Warnemünde, Germany, marking the end of its South American homeport season.
