Seaway 7, a contractor in offshore wind projects, and Dong Fang Offshore, a Taiwanese offshore wind service provider under Hung Hua Construction, have formed a partnership to expand their presence in Taiwan's renewable energy sector.

Through a memorandum of understanding, the two entities will collaborate on developing specialised cable installation services tailored to the local market.

Seaway 7 has been active in Taiwan since 2017, participating in four cable installation projects totaling over 2.5GW connected to the country's grid.

The collaboration will leverage Seaway 7's expertise in project management, engineering, and installation, complemented by Dong Fang Offshore's knowledge of the local market and operational capabilities.

Stuart Fitzgerald, CEO of Seaway 7, expressed that the partnership with Dong Fang Offshore strengthens their commitment to establishing a lasting presence in Taiwan.

Dong Fang Offshore's CEO, Polin Chen, highlighted the significance of the partnership in providing a reliable local solution for cable installation and repair in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region.

Taiwan has emerged as a key player in Asian offshore wind development, aiming for 5.7 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2025 and 15 GW by 2035. However, challenges such as project cancellations, delays, and pricing disparities between developers and offtakers pose pressure on achieving these targets.
