Panama Canal Opens Bidding for New LPG Pipeline Project

The Panama Canal Authority has announced the launch of a bidding process for a new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) pipeline, which is expected to ease congestion along the heavily trafficked waterway.
The planned pipeline will enable LPG carriers to offload their cargo at one end of the canal, while other vessels can collect it from the opposite side, helping to streamline transit operations.
“This complementary activity will be incorporated into the sustainable development of the Panama Canal’s West Bank route, which includes activities and alternatives to transporting products by sea,” the Panama Canal Authority stated in a release.
This initiative follows the Canal’s ongoing efforts to boost efficiency and resilience. Earlier this year, its board of directors approved funding for a significant infrastructure project—a new lake to be built along the Indio River watershed. The lake is intended to strengthen the canal’s capacity to manage drought conditions and secure long-term water availability.
