Marella Cruises is introducing reusable coffee cups across its fleet in partnership with Apollo Group as part of efforts to reduce single-use plastic waste.

According to the company, the initiative is expected to prevent more than 1.4 million disposable cups, lids, and sleeves from being used during 2026.

Under the new program, reusable coffee cups will be placed in guest cabins before arrival. Passengers can use the cups throughout the cruise and simply leave them behind at the end of their voyage. Used cups can also be returned to The Coffee Port onboard, where guests will be able to exchange them for freshly cleaned replacements.

Olivia Wells, sustainability manager at Marella Cruises, said: “Following a successful trial, this rollout represents an important step in reducing single-use waste across Marella Cruises’ fleet. By introducing practical, reusable alternatives, we are making it easier for both our customers and our operations to reduce plastic waste.”

During a three-month trial period, around 3,500 takeaway drinks per week were served at The Coffee Port using reusable cups and lids. The company said the trial helped eliminate approximately 180,000 disposable items, including cups, plastic lids, and cardboard sleeves.

The rollout also supports TUI’s wider commitment to the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative, which aims to reduce plastic pollution and lower the production of new plastic materials.
