Explosion at Barcelona Port Claims One Life, Injures Three

An explosion at the Port of Barcelona, Spain, occurred on January 21, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. The incident was swiftly contained, preventing the fire from spreading beyond the port.

The explosion happened at approximately 10:10 a.m. local time on the Energy Wharf, an area designated for handling chemicals, natural gas, and petroleum products. The source of the explosion was a tanker operated by Terminales Portuarias S.L. (TEPSA), filled with methyl acetate and undergoing maintenance at the time.

Thanks to the rapid response of firefighting teams, the fire was extinguished within 40 minutes of the explosion.

One individual tragically lost their life in the incident. Another person sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Two others suffered minor injuries, which were treated at the port.

As a precaution, authorities advised people in nearby companies and facilities to remain indoors during the incident.
