Worker Injured in Knife Attack on Star Princess Cruise Ship
A 28-year-old Bangladeshi employee sustained injuries aboard the Star Princess, a cruise ship currently being built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone. The incident occurred on January 20, 2025, at approximately 8:20 a.m. during regular operations. The altercation happened on deck four of the vessel.
The victim, a plumber working for a subcontractor, was attacked with a 10-centimeter fruit knife by a 24-year-old coworker. He suffered multiple cuts to his arms, legs, and buttocks. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening. After receiving stitches at San Polo hospital, he was discharged and sent home to recover.
Authorities arrested the suspected attacker, also a Bangladeshi national, on charges of aggravated assault. Although the investigation is ongoing, police have not yet revealed the motive behind the attack. Preliminary information points to a personal conflict between the two individuals, but more details are expected to surface as inquiries continue.
Fincantieri, the company overseeing the shipyard, released a statement addressing the event: "We firmly condemn what happened and are closely monitoring the developments," a representative said.
The Star Princess, a 178,000-ton vessel powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), is the second ship of its kind being built for Princess Cruises. Currently in the final stages of construction at the Panzano basin, it is scheduled for delivery later in 2025.
