Ports of Long Beach, Yantian Sign Green Maritime Economy MoU
A Memorandum of Cooperation has been signed between the Port of Long Beach, Hutchison Ports Yantian, the South Coast Air Quality Management District, and the North American Representative Office of Shenzhen.
This agreement aims to promote collaboration in decarbonizing maritime trade and advancing sustainable development, focusing on establishing a green maritime economy across the Pacific Rim.
The memorandum, signed on September 22 in Shenzhen, China, outlines a cooperative framework for the exchange of knowledge and resources to further the sustainable development of ports and reduce the carbon footprint of the maritime industry.
As part of the agreement, the involved parties will work together to introduce clean technologies, support the development of sustainable infrastructure, and drive economic growth with an emphasis on sustainability and public health.
The collaboration will include pilot projects showcasing green maritime technologies and initiatives to encourage the use of more environmentally friendly vessels.
Additionally, the agreement opens discussions on the potential for a sister port arrangement between Yantian and Long Beach. This would not only support the environmental goals of the memorandum but also bring economic benefits and improve operational efficiency between the two ports.
