Norwegian Cruise Line Orders Four Ships from Fincantieri
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCL) has finalized a contract with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to construct four cutting-edge cruise ships, valued at approximately $9.34 billion.
This agreement represents the largest order ever secured by Fincantieri, signaling a significant expansion for NCL. The colossal vessels—each with an estimated weight of 226,000 tons—are set to be built at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in northeastern Italy. The first ship is expected to be delivered in 2030, with the remaining three set for 2032, 2034, and 2036.
Featuring state-of-the-art technology and a strong commitment to sustainability, these new ships will accommodate over 8,300 passengers and crew. Fincantieri, which recently revised its annual revenue forecast to exceed €8 billion, has emphasized that these vessels will adhere to the highest industry standards for innovation and environmental responsibility.
This latest order further strengthens the longstanding collaboration between NCL and Fincantieri. The shipbuilder has already delivered two Prima Class vessels—Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva—for NCL. Additionally, the first unit of the Prima Plus class is set to launch in the coming months, with three more ships currently in different phases of design and construction.
Additionally, investigators determined that there was sufficient space to navigate between nearby vessels, which would have provided better control than the chosen astern maneuver. Moving forward, authorities may take steps to enforce pilotage requirements to prevent similar incidents in the future.
