Missile Attack Targets Vessel Near Gulf of Aden
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that a missile attack occurred on a vessel on August 31, approximately 130 nautical miles east of the Gulf of Aden, Yemen.
The Company Security Officer for the containership Groton reported that two missiles detonated near the ship. Despite the close proximity of the explosions, the vessel sustained no damage and continued on its course to its next port. All crew members were confirmed to be safe.
A spokesperson for the Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that they employed naval, UAV, and missile forces against the Liberian-registered containership.
This incident marks the second attack on the Groton in August while it was navigating through the Gulf of Aden. The vessel previously came under attack on August 3, also in the eastern Gulf of Aden, involving explosions in the sea and a missile strike.
