On September 18, Maersk took part in Japan's inaugural methanol bunkering simulation at Yokohama Port. The exercise involved the Alette Maersk, the company's fifth dual-fuel vessel capable of running on methanol, along with Kokuka Sangyo's methanol tanker, Eikamaru.

In December 2023, Maersk entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Yokohama city and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical. This agreement focuses on advancing the adoption of methanol as a marine fuel along Japan's shipping routes.

During the test, several procedures such as docking, undocking, and hose connections were trialed. The findings from this simulation will contribute to the wider goal of promoting methanol usage in Japan’s maritime sector.
