Royal Caribbean International's Icon of the Seas is currently at the Grand Bahama Shipyard for necessary repairs. The 2023-built vessel arrived in Freeport on September 28, 2024, after technical issues forced the cancellation of its latest cruise.

The Icon of the Seas is expected to return to PortMiami in time for its next scheduled voyage on Saturday, a seven-night cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. The itinerary includes stops in St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

In a prior statement, Royal Caribbean explained that the ship required unscheduled maintenance before resuming its Caribbean service. “While our crew is working hard to address this as quickly as possible, there is still some work that needs to be done over a few days while the ship is docked,” the company stated in a letter sent on September 23, 2024.

Due to the repairs, the cruise departing on September 28, 2024, was canceled. This voyage was originally set to sail from Miami to Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatán, and CocoCay.

Passengers affected by the cancellation were provided with a full refund, as well as a Future Cruise Credit equal to the fare they paid. Royal Caribbean also refunded flights booked through the company and reimbursed those who made independent travel arrangements. Additionally, the cruise line covered change fees up to $200 per guest for domestic travel and $400 for international trips.

Guests on the September 21 sailing were also impacted by the technical issue, which resulted in the cancellation of the planned stop in St. Thomas.
