The Grimaldi Group has officially taken delivery of the ECO Napoli, marking the completion of its GG5G-class vessel series. The delivery took place on March 14 at the Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China.

ECO Napoli: Final Vessel in the GG5G Series

The ECO Napoli is the 14th and last vessel in Grimaldi’s GG5G class, a fleet designed for high efficiency and reduced environmental impact. The vessel is registered under the Italian flag and boasts the following specifications:

  • Length: 238 meters
  • Beam: 34 meters
  • Gross Tonnage: 67,311

Enhanced Cargo Capacity & Environmental Benefits

Grimaldi has stated that the ECO Napoli can accommodate cargo across seven decks, effectively doubling its freight capacity without increasing emissions. This design results in a 50% reduction in CO₂ emissions per unit of cargo transported compared to previous vessels.

To further enhance sustainability, the ECO Napoli features:

  • Electronically controlled engines that optimize fuel consumption and performance.
  • Exhaust gas filtration systems that reduce sulfur and particulate emissions.
  • A lithium-ion battery system (5MWh capacity), charged by shaft generators and 350 square meters of solar panels. This allows the vessel to operate with zero emissions while docked in port.

Deployment on Mediterranean Routes

The ECO Napoli is now set to enter service on Grimaldi’s route connecting Gemlik, Ambarli, Patras, and Trieste, continuing the company’s commitment to sustainable and efficient maritime transport.
