The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) responded to a fire on board the cargo vessel MV Castphill XV in the early hours of March 30, while it was sailing northwest of Limbones Island in Nasugbu, Batangas.

At around 4:27 AM local time, the PCG patrol ship BRP Boracay successfully rescued seven crew members, including the vessel’s captain, who sustained minor injuries during the incident.

A short time later, five additional crew members were safely recovered by personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) in Maragondon.

Once BRP Boracay arrived at Pier 15 in South Harbor, Manila, the rescued seafarers were transferred to the Coast Guard Medical Dispensary for medical assessment and care.

The PCG has initiated a formal investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring maritime safety, while the Coast Guard reaffirmed its focus on maintaining rapid emergency response capabilities at sea.
