The Invictus, an oil products tanker registered under the Marshall Islands flag, caught fire on April 22 while sailing approximately 508 nautical miles east of Mogadishu, Somalia.

The incident occurred in the vessel’s engine room as it was en route from Beira Port in Mozambique to Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. The 180-meter-long tanker experienced significant flooding in the engine compartment, and while the crew successfully extinguished the blaze by April 23, damage to the propulsion system has left the ship adrift.

One Filipino crew member suffered burn injuries during the fire. A nearby Indian Navy ship responded to the emergency and administered first aid to the injured seafarer. The individual remains on board, with the vessel's management currently evaluating options for transferring him ashore.

The rest of the crew are safe and continue to remain aboard the tanker.
