Evergreen Container Truck Flips Blocking Taiwan Freeway
An Evergreen container truck, hauling a 40-foot container, overturned on April 16th on Taiwan's National Freeway 2, causing significant traffic disruption.
The incident occurred around 6:52 AM local time near the Zhentou Interchange, just 0.1 kilometers east of the freeway, effectively blocking the route towards the interchange. National Freeway 2 serves as a crucial link between Taoyuan and New Taipei City.
The rollover took place during the peak of morning rush hour, leading to considerable traffic delays.
Upon receiving reports of the accident, emergency services, including fire engines and ambulances, were dispatched to the scene. The 53-year-old truck driver, identified only by his surname Wei, was conscious but trapped inside the overturned vehicle.
Firefighters successfully extricated him, and he was transported to Taoyuan’s Min-sheng General Hospital with cuts on his left hand and scrapes on his right foot.
A breathalyzer test confirmed that Wei was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Police are investigating the cause of the accident but initially suspect improper handling of the vehicle.
