CMA CGM Registers First Indian-Flagged Ship in Milestone

CMA CGM has marked a significant milestone with the arrival of its first Indian-flagged container ship, making it the first major foreign shipping company to do so.
The vessel, CMA CGM Vitoria, has a carrying capacity of 2,592 TEUs and now operates under India’s flag as part of the company’s BIGEX service. This route provides direct weekly connections between India, the Gulf region, and the Red Sea, with regular calls at Nhava Sheva and Mundra.
Following a recent visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to CMA CGM’s headquarters in Marseille, the company plans to register three additional ships under the Indian flag in the coming months.
CMA CGM has maintained a strong presence in India for over three decades and currently employs around 17,000 people in the country. The group is also investing in port infrastructure, particularly at Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal (NSFT) near Mumbai and at Mundra Port, further strengthening its footprint in the region.
