A fatal maritime accident occurred near Yangxiaomao Island off the coast of Ningbo, China, when two Chinese-flagged cargo vessels collided in the early hours of March 29, according to the Ningbo Maritime Safety Administration.

The incident happened around 2:50 AM local time when the Ningyuan Beilun struck the Jianghai Zhida 66, causing the latter to sink with all 13 of its crew onboard.

Search and rescue operations were swiftly launched, and by 6:50 AM, all crew members who had fallen into the water were recovered. Tragically, one person was confirmed dead, while three others sustained injuries and were transported to a hospital for medical care. The remaining nine individuals were rescued unharmed.

The Ningyuan Beilun, which was en route from Ningbo to Zhapu carrying up to 934 TEUs of containerized cargo, did not suffer damage in the crash. The vessel is currently anchored at Zhoushan Anchorage.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of the collision, and an investigation is underway to determine what led to the deadly incident.
