On October 7, the crew of the Polish-flagged bulk carrier Jawor made a surprising discovery: several packets of cocaine stashed onboard their vessel. The suspicious packages, each containing 40 kg of cocaine, were found during routine operations while the ship was anchored off the coast of Brazil, near Sao Luis.

The crew immediately reported the find to their captain, who followed protocol and informed the shipping agent. Law enforcement was promptly notified and quickly arrived via helicopter to investigate further.

Authorities discovered multiple black-foil-wrapped bags containing the illicit substance. A police investigation is now underway to determine how the drugs were smuggled aboard the ship and if any of the 20 crew members - comprised of Ukrainian, Polish, Bulgarian, and Romanian nationals - were involved.

While all crew members are set to be questioned, none have been arrested at this time.

The Jawor had recently arrived in Brazil from Rotterdam and was scheduled to transport a cereal shipment to Cartagena, Spain, after docking at the Sao Luis Port. According to a spokesperson for the vessel, the drugs were likely placed onboard while the ship was anchored, possibly by individuals using a small craft during the night.
