Three Containers Salvaged After Collision at Nansha Port
On September 21, three containers were knocked off the FESCO boxship, Vladivostok, during a collision at Nansha Port. Fortunately, all containers were recovered and returned to the ship in the days following the incident.
The collision occurred around 9:45 PM local time, when the Vladivostok was docked at the Phase III container terminal at Nansha Port, engaged in loading and unloading operations. It was struck by the container ship De Xin Shang Hai, which had just arrived from Hong Kong on its maiden voyage.
The impact caused three containers to fall into the water. The Guangzhou Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre quickly dispatched two patrol boats and two tugboats to manage the situation.
Within two hours, two of the containers were re-secured to the Vladivostok, while the third was tethered by a tugboat to prevent it from drifting. By 2:45 AM, a salvage boat arrived, and by 8:30am the following morning, all three containers were successfully recovered.
Both vessels involved in the incident remain docked at Nansha Port as damage assessments and further investigations are conducted.
