Singapore Welcomes CMA CGM’s First Methanol-Powered Ship

The Port of Singapore received CMA CGM Iron, the first dual-fuel methanol-powered containership in CMA CGM’s fleet, during its inaugural call on March 4. This milestone reflects the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and adopting greener shipping practices.
CMA CGM Iron, sailing under the Malta flag, was built by Samho Heavy Industries in Korea. It is the first of twelve 13,000 TEU dual-fuel methanol containerships ordered by CMA CGM. The remaining vessels in this series are set for delivery between 2025 and 2026, reinforcing the company’s broader sustainability goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Operating as part of the CIMEX1 Service, CMA CGM Iron will strengthen maritime connections between Asia and the Middle East Gulf region. The vessel is expected to arrive at Khalifa Port, UAE, by March 12.
