The sportswear behemoth Nike has entered into an agreement with the French shipping company CMA CGM to employ eco-friendly biofuel for a portion of its sea freight over an experimental period of 11 months.

During this pilot phase, Nike plans to transport 36% of its cargo using CMA CGM's sustainable biofuel options, which is anticipated to lead to a reduction of 25,000 tons in CO2 emissions.

“Collaborating with a key player like Nike and taking this major step towards decarbonisation is an important achievement. We are confident that our success will act as a catalyst, encouraging other carriers and customers to join us on this path to accelerate the transition towards a net zero industry,”  stated Olivier Nivoix, a senior vice president at CMA CGM.
