Job Overview

Job Information Job Description Passage Planning: Their most vital task. They physically map out the voyage from "berth to berth," calculating distances, checking weather patterns, and identifying hazards using ECDIS and paper charts.  Navigational Watchkeeping: They typically stand the 12-4 watch (noon to 4 PM and midnight to 4 AM). During this time, they are in total control of the ship's movement and must ensure compliance with COLREGs (traffic rules at sea).  Medical Officer: On most merchant ships, the 2nd Officer is the designated "Doc." They manage the ship’s hospital, maintain the medical locker, and provide first aid and emergency treatment to the crew.  Chart Corrections: They ensure every nautical chart and publication is up-to-date by applying weekly "Notices to Mariners." Navigating with an outdated chart is a major legal violation.  GMDSS & Radio: Responsible for the ship’s Global Maritime Distress and Safety System. They perform daily, weekly, and monthly tests on all radio and satellite communication equipment. Skills and Qualifications: AT LEAST 18 MONTHS OF EXPERIENCE AS 2ND OFFICER WITH OR WITHOUT VALID US VISA  HOLDING VALID DOCUMENTS  3 MONTHS OF INITIAL CONTRACT Benefits HMO BONUS
