The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is inviting businesses in the shipping and fisheries sectors to join the Marine Plastic Litter Global Industry Alliance (GIA).

This new alliance aims to bring together leaders from both industries to create solutions for preventing and reducing ocean plastics. It will also address common challenges in adopting new technologies and alternative approaches.

Managed by the IMO as part of its OceanLitter Programme, the Marine Plastic Litter GIA will encompass projects like the GloLitter Partnerships project (GloLitter) and the Regional Litter Project (RegLitter). This alliance will build on and replace the previous GIA established under the GloLitter project.

Members of the alliance will meet regularly to share knowledge and expertise through roundtable discussions, develop industry guidelines and tools to combat plastic litter, and promote awareness of green solutions through studies and other activities.
