On January 16, the Russian-flagged cargo vessel Stepan Geyts experienced a severe starboard tilt while docked at Plastun Port, Russia. At approximately 2:47 PM local time, timber cargo stacked on the vessel's deck began sliding to the starboard side, eventually spilling into the water.
The ship listed heavily as a result, but stability was restored after most of the timber fell overboard, with some remaining precariously hanging over the side.
Concerned about a potential capsize, some crew members evacuated to the quay. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported.
Built in 1983, the Stepan Geyts is operated by Vladivostok-based Lesprom-Nakhodka JSC. The vessel measures 90.5 meters in length and 15.2 meters in width.
