Crew advocate Rinell Banda is urging cruise lines to grant all crew members a full day off each month, as reported by CrewCenter.

Banda, the founder of Buhay Sa Cruise Ship and a social media influencer with over 900,000 followers, put forward the proposal after receiving feedback from thousands of cruise ship workers who shared their experiences on his platform.

The purpose of the initiative is to give crew members a chance to recharge, boost their productivity, and ultimately improve the overall guest experience on board.

In a video message posted on his page, Banda addressed cruise line executives, saying: “To all the amazing CEOs of the cruise ship industry, I have a suggestion that could transform the lives of our hard working crew members and make our ships even more efficient and happier places to work: implementing a day off at least once a month for all crew members.”

Currently, cruise ship crew members typically only get limited time off rather than a full day of rest. Banda argues that giving them a complete day off each month would have a positive impact on their well-being.

“Think about it: Happy crew members lead to happy guests. It’s a win-win for everyone! So, to all the cruise ship CEOs out there: Let’s lead by example and set a new standard in the maritime industry. One day off a month can make all the difference. Your crew, your strength. Let’s give them the break they deserve,” Banda concluded.

CrewCenter has thrown its support behind the initiative, highlighting the potential advantages for both crew members and the broader cruise industry.
