Passengers currently sailing on Symphony of the Seas have received a notice from Royal Caribbean International outlining guidelines for decorating stateroom doors during the cruise.

The letter, distributed during the current voyage, explained several rules intended to ensure decorations remain safe and appropriate for all guests onboard.

According to the notice, cabin door decorations must not include lithium-powered lights, block the peephole, create a fire risk, or extend onto the door frame. The cruise line also recommended using magnetic decorations as a simpler and safer option for guests who enjoy customizing their stateroom doors.

The message further advised passengers that any items displayed outside cabins are left “at your own risk,” adding that Royal Caribbean is not responsible for decorations that go missing during the voyage.

Decorated cabin doors have become a popular tradition on many cruises, but one guest onboard suggested the reminder may have followed a recent issue involving a magnetic Scrabble-style decoration set.

According to the guest, a room attendant explained that someone had rearranged the Scrabble pieces on another passenger’s door to spell offensive words, leading to complaints and confusion among guests. The incident reportedly caused considerable onboard tension after other passengers believed the messages had been created by the cabin occupants themselves
